Our names aren't made up rubbish - by Emily Imani

Emily Imani Rose Quartz

Maybe the wild Indians weren't chanting heh ya ya ya ya hey ya ya ya yaya - maybe they were rapping  ( hey ya) but what the colonist heard was a rhythmic steady chanting. It's also very possible they were reciting sutras- as deeper research reveals hindus religious origin as being the ancient Americas first. What I KNOW they weren't doing is just jumping around being savage heathens  saying nonsense words with no intelligence. Jump up jump up and around. It's been a long time I shouldn't have left u without a dope beat to step to- Is it possible that rap is an historic art form of the indigenous Americans, wild Indians? It dawns on me that rap isn't new, it didn't start with be-bop and jazz either. It started back with and before the mound builders in ole Mississippi. The Mayans. TYE Aztecs go further back..the Olmecz The earliest inhabitants of the Americas a span of land once known as India.   I feel terrible for all the years I taught that rap came from the griot tradition of West Africa. Our Ancestors have been so kind to us, even though we ignored them and every whisper of them even though we were told time and time again that we had Cherokee blood, and a bunch of other passed down rumors despite all dat- we stopped giving them credit and to make things worse we boldy gave credit to some other folks across the ocean who don't even look like us unless u believe that ninja look the same  seen one you seen em all.  I can't believe we believed that racist baloney.  Ancestors please forgive us we have been under deep spell but finally the new babies being born  and these babies are still rapping chanting creating slang the whole world wants to master jus for a chance of feeling like us just a little bit- the words black is sliding off our back -    We are quite beautiful copper mahogany ebony and brown with all kinds of gold and red earth tones. And our blood lines our lineage is different clans, tribes and regions. Our names aren't made up rubbish, it's the sounds of our language that keeps popping out of our mouths.
