Ashanti Fertility Dolls

Fertility and Positive Cultural Explorations By Yamenita

Ashanti is a Akan Tribe of Ghana West Africa. This image is a  fertility doll of the tribe.
Ashanti Fertility Doll is called Akuaba, Akan Tribe, Ghana West Africa

The name of this fertility doll  is Akuaba. Many of these West African dolls are available in America now. I purchased several from a thrift store and placed them my bedroom. All my other statues are in the living room but I felt these would be good to keep very close for some reason. It was months later when researching the Ashanti Tribe that I learned about Akuaba. The first thing I saw when I googled Ashanti was the  image of the Ashanti Fertility Dolls that I wake up to everyday!
The Circle on top ( the head) represents fertility, the elongated oval in the upper chest area represents a women's cleansing power. The oval appears to be arms and are located between the heart and communication ( throat) centers. As we work from our lower selves perhaps we will move into our higher selves only thru our ability to cleanse our energies ( powers) prior to communication. There are many ways to opinions and many explanations for both the symbolism of the Ashanti fertility doll and the similar Ancient symbol of Life ( Eternal Life) The Ankh.
In my practice  of Energy Healing it the nature to move energy upwards cleansing each chakra up to the crown chakra where our full power may be manifested ( birthed). I can connect such concepts as I look at the Akuaba, especially as the head is (a circle) an African symbol of eternity as well, that  represents the womb. As opposed to our physical womb, in Akuaba  the womb is placed in the "upper" self and there is a cleansing center that must be passed thru before entrance to the womb ( the head).
It is indeed a powerful fertility doll that is known to bring a woman a beautiful child. Without too much thought we can accept the traditions of African culture exactly as they are. As unique spirits we will be called to our inner wisdom which varies from person to person. Yet as branches of the same tree we must be free to come home and sit in the comforting shade of that tree and eat of its fruit to nourish oursleves. Strong tree, strong roots   -Rose Quartz, Yamenita
